Subscription or Acces?

So, all my entries are public and I just use private entries for write about very personal things, like sex :P
I think I don't need give grant acces to people because they can subscribe to my journal if they want to read this, right?

If I give grant acces to someone, will this person be able to read my private post or they will be able to read public entries and acces list entries?

I'm think we can only see things that you post to your "Access List". You can choose "Private" if you don't want anyone to see your post. I must confess, though, that I have no idea how the filters work. Are we filtering people out? Or filtering them in?

I was not sure about the access filters. I guess these are like groups you choose to share certain posts with. My old LJ posts were targeted, and I guess I can do that here too by choosing to share with people who are included in these filters. Thanks for the link! I wasn't sure where to look for the info.

To use your phrasing, you are filtering people in. When you make an access list in DW it is an inclusive list of people you want to share a specific post. Suppose I made a list with you and nattalie on it, and wrote a post with that access list. *Only* you and her would be able to read it. Not my subscribers and not the people I have granted access to.

That being said, you have to have subscribed mutually to a person to add them to an access list. Want to be friends? I am interested in these stories you speak of...

Thanks so much for the info! Sure, I'd love to be friends. My old LJ stories are locked to specific friends, but I hope to have some more fun stories someday.

Took me a bit to wrap my own head around this when I came over from LJ. Everyone can read public posts, even people who stumble across your journal who have not subscribed to your journal. Subscribing to a journal is adding it to your reading list, so that your public posts are accessible to the reader through their own site. There is also the network feature on DW that collects all of the subscriptions from people on your reading list and shares the public posts with you.

When you use a private entry, only those people who you have specifically given access to in DW will be able to read that entry. So your personal posts, post about sex, etc will only be read by those people on their reading list. These posts are also not available in the network feature for friends-of-friends to read (makes sense, since you have made them private). Right now, for example you have subscribed to your my journal (so you can see my posts in your reading list), but you did not grant me access to your private posts. I've subscribed to your journal (so I can see this post in my reading list) and I have granted you access to my journal because I use restricted posts for work, rants etc (aka the juicy bits of why someone would want to follow so most people who I interact with here, and I know do not work with me by some weird chance, are given access).

There is also the access list which are lists that you make up that share specific posts inclusive of the group that you make. So if you added me and three other people to a, let's say, an access list called Cool People than posts that you write under that access list will only be available to the Cool People. Again, these posts cannot be shared on the network feature. Also, people who you have granted access but are not in the access list, will not be able to see the post.

Private (only you) are just that. Only you can see them. Period. Full stop.

Hope that helps.

Sorry, you are correct. Access List posts are ones that people who you have granted access to can read. Private posts are just for you to see and no one else. And Access Filter posts are posts that only people who you include in an access filter can see.

Sorry for the confusion. :S

Thank you so much for raising up this issue, I was also all confused about how it works with filters.
Your journal is wonderful, I've been lurking around for a while, and now I subscribed. Florida is very familiar to me and your pictures remind about good things...

I admire your determination, it is not easy to keep a diary in English. English is not my native language as well, I know how hard is to express yourself when you're thinking in different language.

I wish we spoke Spanish in the US rather than English, it seems so much easier for me. In Spanish you can hear every single word and in English everything depends on how you pronounce.
I can translate some stories for you from my journal. I like to write stories, or short memoirs about my past, or sometimes I publish someone else's writing.
I started writing in English recently, but I still need to work a lot on my style and vocab and all these stupid grammar mistakes.
Your writing is very good. I understand everything you want to say and how you feel and I think you express your thoughts really well.

I have to rush to the swimming pool before it's closed. I also have one book to share and the idea to comment on each other's posts sounds great!
Talk to you later.
I am back.
Book on HTML, a really good one.
Good night!

I just wanted to share this book on HTML because you mentioned that you are learning it. This is a good one, a very user-friendly, with step-by-step prompts on every procedure. I am not too computer savvy, but I learned a lot of basic stuff from it.
The books to learn English are kind of late for me because I practice this language every day anyway. What I really need is to practice more writing because the way I express my thinking in written English is poor, my vocab is limited, I make grammar mistakes etc. Thank you so much for your generous offer! I am so glad we can chat a little bit.
